This is a beta site: definitely still under construction.
This page would provide a history of the Plainville Times, maybe an image of an old issue, and then provide references back to MSM and contact information.
Known issues:
Again, this is a beta site, used for testing, and not published to the Internet. Robots-follow is turned off. That said, the right margin will keep the search field, and everything else will be replaced with Print ROP ads… okay, not on these PAGES, but on the CATEGORIES and on POSTS they will.
The CSS needs to be tweaked to allow auto indent of paragraphs normally, with an NO-INDENT variant available when needed. Things like the commissioner payroll will need to be displayed as a table, and that will need to be standardized.
Our columns – I’d like to explore creating a repeatable style with page headings similar to the bold-bars we use in print. Also, there’s an issue with the “author”. Authors, in WordPress, are users. We’d have to create a user account for every author. User accounts are based on an email, so for example, Rachel Brooke would have a functional account with working email so she could show up as the author. I don’t like that system. I do like that you could click on Rachel’s name and get her colophon/impressum, and that it is on a separate page.
I dorked up the categories a few days ago, so clicking on Cardinals displays Roosters, and Roosters category looks generic. I’m not worried — this is a test site and will not be used in production, but it is a known issue.
We will need to develop a battery of generic images to use with “feature stories” that otherwise have no photo.
We need to decide if categories stop as shown in the menu, or if we have a subcategory for every regular feature. I think not; we’ll tie those together with tags. BTW, a TAG cloud may appear in the right margin, or it could be a separate page – I’d like a tag-cloud (list of keywords, linked to a page which shows you everywhere they appear) restricted by date (just items published “within one week” for example.)
Okay I could type here all day, or I can go fix the problems. Cherrio!
